Oriental Connexions at the E-Square hotel in Shivajinagar, occupies the spot which was previously occupied by All Stir Fry. It still has a oriental menu, along with a customizable work option; similar to All Stir Fry, but the place has obviously seen a change in management. I had been hearing positive reviews about Oriental Connexions from foodie friends, but didn’t have a chance to visit before. One late evening, after a particularly excruciating experience of watching a terrible Bollywood movie at the multiplex below, we decided to make atleast some use of those tickets that offer a discount at Oriental Connexions.
Ambience is sober, with predominantly white hues and a high ceiling; but it is the artificial vines and flowers that kill it for me.
Although I was wanting to go for the wok, it was pretty late and almost time to shut the kitchen; so we decided to go for a quick a la carte meal. We tried:
Lemon pepper soup: a fresh vegetable broth with lovely citrusy flavor; but I wish there was more pepper in it.
Chicken Tom Yum Soup: Had some authentic thai flavor from the galangal, bird’s eye chillies and lemongrass, along with vegetables like celery and mushrooms; the chicken was quite nice too.
Kung Pao Chicken: The sauce was a lovely hot and sweet sauce, but some of the chicken pieces were well-cooked as well. Satisfactory in terms of taste.
Nasi Goreng: This one came with prawns, but sadly the prawns were really over-cooked and the rice-itself was lacking in flavor. The Kung Pao Chicken made it barely palatable.
Prices are average, considering the portions; but not for the taste. They offer a 20% discount to diners who have movie tickets for the same day at E-Square multiplex, so that makes the deal better.
Service was quick and helpful even at a late hour, even when they were almost shutting down.
Overall, a decent place for an oriental meal and not much to find fault with; but no wow factor too. But I’ll reserve my final opinion until I try the wok at this place.
