I found myself close to Aundh for work last Friday, so I thought of treating myself to a relaxed solo lunch at The Blue Plate. This latest venture from the team of Café de Custard has a variety of baguette sandwiches, pastas, flatbreads and desserts on offer. The café itself; staying true to its European theme; has a simple, pleasant décor in hues of white and blue.
I tried the Chicken Peri peri flatbread. It had a generous amount of spicy, juicy shredded chicken on a crisp, thin, hand pulled flatbread. The spicy chicken was nicely balanced with some sweet caramelized onion, marinara and some acidity from the balsamic vinegar. And there was just the right amount of cheese…super delicious!
Washed it down with a very refreshing lemon iced tea, which was a savior in the scorching heat.
I had no room for dessert, but the images of their Mango devil that have been going around on social media made it very difficult to resist. I got a take away of the Mango devil, and I must say, it is totally droolworthy; way better in taste than the pictures promise you. The reason why I love Café De Custard desserts, is the restrained use of sugar and none of the custards are overly sweet and the same is true in case of Mango devil. Instead of the sugary sweetness of the custard, the real flavor and sweetness comes from the generous mango pieces that top the dessert.
Service is super quick. Prices are fairly reasonable. Definitely worth a few more visits to try the sandwiches and pastas.
